Jess is a professional road cyclist, private chef, and founder of a San Diego based energy bar company. Jess establish her business under the philosophy that athletes and everyday families alike should have wholesome and nutritious meals. Jess’s innovative recipes have landed her on the pages of Triathlete Magazine and Women’s Running Magazine as their monthly nutrition contributor.
Why Jess has joined Padres Pedal the Cause:
“My Granny. She taught me how to make her authentic Italian “gravy,” three layer chocolate + strawberry cake, and so much more about food. She left me her stubbornness, which I will call an attribute.
But she also left too soon, at age 69. Before seeing me graduate from college/grad school, race a bike, or start a business.
Unfortunately, cancer touches all of our lives in some way, shape or form. Whether personally, or through a family or a friend. It’s a disease, that if you’re like me, leaves you feeling helpless at times. I felt this way with Granny and now seeing one of Sam’s family members go through this battle I feel this way even more.
Help Jess & Sam Drop Cancer.

Sam is a UCLA-grad-turned-professional cyclist, currently competing for the Wildlife Generation Pro Cycling Team, also selected to compete with the USA Cycling National Team in the 2019 Amgen Tour of California.
Why Sam has joined Padres Pedal the Cause:
“As a local to San Diego and someone whose family members have suffered through and are currently battling cancer, Padres Pedal for the Cause hits close to home for me in more ways than one.
Cycling is an expansive and incredibly strong community. By riding alongside fellow bike riders who have either suffered themselves, or know someone currently in their own battle with cancer, I hope I can help show and reassure them that they are not alone, and that support is a only a couple tire-widths away.

Crystal has been a Rush Cycle instructor for over three years! Crystal is honored to co-lead the spin event at Padres Pedal the Cause for the second year in a row. Her experience spans across three studios in San Diego including La Jolla, Mission Valley, and she currently teaches in San Marcos. Her passion for spin and service inspired her to lead multiple fundraising cycling events including the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and the University of San Diego. Crystal is also an employee at Thermo Fisher Scientific, one of the top fundraising teams at Pedal the Cause!
Why Crystal has joined Padres Pedal the Cause:
‘Cancer’ did not enter my vocabulary until 2017 in which the word became uncomfortably familiar for years to come. In the span of two years, I’ve lost my grandfather to lymphoma, my father-in-law to glioblastoma, and my brother-in-law to squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil. The lives of three wonderful, loving, and kind men were changed forever. For a while, it felt as though cancer became the new normal. However, our families have found the silver lining through the support of one another and making every single moment together count.
Hearing the diagnosis of cancer multiple times in such a short span of time has changed my outlook on life and redefined what it meant to fight for the greater good. It’s been one of the most trying times in my family’s life, but what motivated us through it all was our loved ones’ resilience. Regardless of the surgeries, chemo, and medication, these men made the choice to fight so they can live one more moment… one more moment to crack a joke to friends, one more moment to hold on to their wives’ hands, one more moment to see their children grow up. It’s those small moments we fight for that make life worthwhile and that is why I became an ambassador for Padres Pedal the Cause.
I want to inspire others that hearing the word ‘cancer’ does not define how many moments we have, but how much we make those moments count. That means to finding a cure so that our loved ones can live the life they deserve. One moment we give participating in Pedal the Cause, in turn, can give many more moments to those who are battling cancer. On November 16, I will ride for moments I cherished with Edward, Larry, and David. I hope you will join me as we ride in pursuit of the moment we are able to find a cure for cancer!
If you’ve never experienced a ride with Kellie, you’re in for a treat. Think high energy, empowerment, spinsporation (as she calls it) and an overall good time had by all, and that pretty much sums up the “Kellie Experience!”
This is her second year rallying behind Padres’ Pedal the Cause, and we can’t think of a better person to host two rides for this year’s event!
Why Kellie has joined Padres Pedal the Cause:
I have a few close friends who have survived the fight against cancer and am inspired by their resilience and tenacity and by the tribe that has rallied around them in the midst of their battle! Not one person in this universe should ever have to fight such a battle, and that is exactly why I fight so desperately for a cause that strives to eradicate this horrible disease. I believe in a WORLD WITHOUT CANCER, and I’ll do everything I can to see that come to fruition!”
