Donation Day Success
Yesterday, San Diego came together in support of local cancer research, the thousands of patients who currently rely on cutting-edge care, and the millions more who could be helped in the future. Thanks to our partner KFMB for hosting our telethon yesterday, and for each and every rider who went out and secured more donations. Overall, the Pedal community had an outstanding fundraising day, and together we’ve created a big surge inmomentum.
During Thursday’s telethon, Team KFMB rider Cookie “Chainsaw” Randolph and Multisports.com co-founder Heather Fuhr spoke with Nichelle Medina about training for the ride. An Ironman World Champion, Heather is part of the world-class team of professionals who have designed the training programs and event courses.
The directors of the three National Institute of Cancer-designated cancer centers, Dr. Scott Lippman of the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Dr. Garth Powis of the Sanford-Burnham Cancer Center and Dr. Tony Hunter of the Salk Institute Cancer Center spoke with CBS 8’s Dan Cohen about the importance of private funding to support cutting-edge cancer research.
Pedal the Cause executive director Patrick Connor and #Teambpw rider and inspiration Brooke Wilson discussed their individual patient stories with Dan Cohen. Patrick was part of a ground-breaking clinical trial for a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma treatment that saved his life, and has since become the standard of care. Brooke is currently participating in a clinical trial at UC San Diego Moores, under the care of fellow Pedal rider Dr. Greg Daniels. Clinical trials like Brooke’s save lives every day, and are exactly what Pedal is all about.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Donation Day. With 92 days until event weekend, there’s still time to donate and to sign up to ride. No amount is too small to make a difference, and every dollar counts. Sign up or donate today.
