Duane Roth, Influential San Diego Biotech Businessman & Philanthropist
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Duane Roth. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his family and friends, as the entire San Diego community mourns a great individual. Duane was the embodiment of so much that is San Diego – his entrepreneurial spirit and his ceaseless drive to make the world better place.
Duane was CEO and member of the board for CONNECT, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining the growth of innovative technology and life science businesses in San Diego. So respected and trusted in the world of technology and life sciences, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Duane to the oversight board of the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) where he served as vice chairman.
An active member of the San Diego community, Duane served as co-chair for the Affordable Housing Working Group, a member of the Advisory Council for Math for America, a member of the Board of UC San Diego Pruess Charter School, and co-chair of the advisory board to the National Conflict Resolution Center.
Thank you to everyone who is supporting Duane’s family through this difficult time. Duane will live on in our hearts, minds, and our individual and collective actions to continue to advance medical care here in San Diego and around the world.
