The Impact of Philanthropy

National Philanthropy Day is November 15th, and while we should aim to participate in philanthropic work year round, it’s a great time to jump in with both feet. For those who participated in Padres Pedal the Cause, you got a great start with our event and helping to create a world without cancer! Now you can learn more about how you can do your part to make a difference and benefit humanity in any number of ways. Continue to help us raise funds for life-saving cancer research, and then take it a step further. The great news is there’s always something you can do to help your community.

So what kind of impact can you make? At Padres Pedal the Cause, we’re very proud to say we’ve been able to raise $5.75 million, and that’s not counting the funds from out 2017 ride! We’ve funded 31 collaborative research projects and, with the money we raised from this year’s event, we’ll be able to fund even more. Because 100% of the funds we raise go directly to innovative cancer research projects at our beneficiaries in San Diego, you can be confident that every cent you raise for Padres Pedal can help change lives. Whether you join us because of a loved one’s experience with cancer, your own experience or just out of solidarity for those who’ve had to live with this disease, your participation is helping bring us closer to ending cancer.

There are so many ways and so many opportunities to give back via philanthropic causes that there’s no reason not to get involved! Every second and every cent you donate truly makes a difference in the lives of people in your communities, and that knowledge is profoundly rewarding. Wondering how to get involved? Here are a few ways to start making an impact today:

  • Start in your community: Check in with local shelters, food banks, schools and other local nonprofits to see how you can help
  • Time is money: If you don’t have disposable income, donate time
  • Start small: Even one hour a week or $5 a month can make a huge difference
  • Look for the helpers: You probably know someone who’s involved in a philanthropic cause, so follow their lead
  • Follow the news: When natural disasters occur, many nonprofits rely on charitable donations to help the victims of the disaster
  • Listen to your heart: Find a cause that speaks to your passions

When you contribute to philanthropic causes, you are caring for your community and making a very real difference for community members. Some causes, like Padres Pedal the Cause, have measurable outcomes with far-reaching and tangible results, often for people you know. Other causes, like serving meals at a food bank, have a smaller, individual impact. No matter what cause you choose to serve, you will be changing lives. Philanthropy literally means “love of humankind,” and by participating in charitable work, you’re showing your love for the people you’re helping. Follow your passion and take heart knowing that all your donations, time and hard work will change people’s lives.

There is still time to make an impact with Padres Pedal the Cause. Fundraising goes until December 20th. Donate directly to a rider or make a general donation to Padres Pedal to help create a world without cancer.
