On World Cancer Day, You Can Make a Difference
Today is World Cancer Day. This international effort works to debunk the myths about cancer and offers an opportunity for us to collectively raise our voices and share the truths about cancer and raise awareness.
Did you know that cancer is the number one killer in the world, and the number one killer here in San Diego? Cancer does not discriminate – it affects men and women of different colors, ages, and nationalities all over the world.
The four myths World Cancer Day aims to break are 1) we don’t need to talk about cancer; 2) there are no signs or symptoms of cancer; 3) there is nothing we can do about cancer; 4) I don’t have the right to cancer care.
For World Cancer Day, we CAN do something to fight cancer.
With three National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers right here in our backyard – the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Salk Institute Cancer Center, and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute – we have the opportunity to support these powerhouses in their cancer prevention and treatment research.
Join us and support these San Diego institutes in their efforts to find a cure for cancer. And if you have already registered for Pedal the Cause, start the conversation with your friends, co-workers, neighbors, dentist, dog sitter … everyone you know about registering for Pedal the Cause.
Together we can make a different. Together, we can strive toward a world without cancer.
