Teamwork, Accepting the Challenge

“Individual commitment to a group effort… That is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” –Vince Lombardi
When I was a young girl I experienced a traumatic medical condition that influenced where I am today. This experience taught me a lot about human nature, teamwork, perseverance and gratitude. It also caused me to become extremely passionate about personalized medicine as well as steer my education to focus on engineering and science. Aside from leading an active healthy lifestyle I am extremely devoted to bringing the world novel health-care approaches.
Now, at Life Technologies, I am fortunate enough to work alongside an amazing team that helps develop the tools and instruments that will be pivotal to finding earlier diagnosis and making cancer chronic.
Cancer touches everyone and we, as a part of the biotech and San Diego community, can make a huge impact. People from around the world come to San Diego and not just for our weather and beaches. San Diego is a unique city that thrives in biotech, wireless health, and wellness. Furthermore, it is the only city in the nation with an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and two NCI-designated basic science cancer centers – bringing the best and brightest to create global solutions together.
Whether it’s through riding, volunteering, or support, there are many ways you can be a part of the team. Health is not solely based off of your genes. It has been estimated by the World Cancer Research Fund that one-quarter to one-third of the cancers that occur in high-income countries like the US are due to poor nutrition, physical inactivity and excess weight. Furthermore, a patient diagnosed with cancer is faced with the greatest of uncertainties. With these things in mind, and in this time of change for Life Technologies, we together, more than ever, need to be involved in Pedal The Cause. I am a firm believer in both mental and physical challenges, but first and foremost believe that the human spirit is boundless.
Pedal The Cause gives us all an opportunity to recognize our own challenges and honor our own stories. It also enables us to remember where we have come, perceive where we are going and most importantly makes us feel grateful for where we are and the company we share today.
I am honored to be the team captain for Life Technologies. As we get closer to the event I wanted to express my thanks to all of those riders and non-riders who have supported Team Life Technologies.
We couldn’t have gotten to where we are today without the tremendous energy and efforts of our team and I cannot wait to experience the resonance it will create in the future.
